The Life of A Chair

Written for a prompt given to me by my mother. though the intended writing should have been more specific and biographical. The Life of A Chair The chair. A simple, basic object used daily without much thought. Defined by the importance of the sitter, and how hard said sitter’s tush is. The chair’s humble beginnings start in a factory, as most other objects do. Each chair has its own unique story, each boasting a different experience. Some have gone through the careful polishing and painting of wood, while others recall of the molds that formed there brightly colored, spinning bodies. Either way, all chairs have the same fate. All chairs leave the factory not knowing what they are in for. Each is excited to finally have a purpose, whether it be to add comfort at the dining table, or to seat the president in the Oval Office. Of course, us oblivious humans wouldn’t notice a thing, because they are, after all, inanimate objects. We would just fall gracefully (...

Thank You!

Look at how time has flown by! Tomorrow, June 23, is the last day of school..... at Pine Glen. During these past six years, I have made countless new friends, memories, and impacts at my beloved elementary school. I have seen each grades specialties, and I have grown so much academically and socially. Today, I would like to thank all my teachers. Kindergarten: Lo and behold, my first year at Pine Glen, I get Mrs. Potts and Ms. Hanafin! They helped me feel comfortable at yet another new school, and helped me learn things the American way. And who can forget making butter ("shake-a, shake-a, shake-a, butter we will make-a, shake-a, shake-a, shake-a, butter we will make-a PASS!) and Mrs. Potts vacation to Costa Rica (I still remember her YouTube video titled, "Adventure Teacher").  First Grade: Entering year two, I was welcomed by Ms. Smith (homeroom) and Mrs. Hayes (ELA) This year, we were introduced to a new subject: ELA. ...

endangered animals

This post is to raise awareness of animals that are endangered. I just want to raise awareness, 'cause the smallest voices can make the biggest impact. I'm really sad to say that animals like the giant panda, cheetah, impala, red panda, elk, moose, hartebeest, Royal Bengal tiger, and more animals are near extinction. What can we do, you ask? Well, unless you're a politician, we don'y have much power to ban anything. But................... we can raise awareness! If we can give ideas to help and raise awareness about this, then these animals have a chance at re-populating. So let's start saving animals! :)

help spread the word!

Okay, today I'm discussing serious matter. 2015 and 2016 are two consecutive years that are receiving the full blow of the El Nino effect. Every few years, a specific part of the ocean heats up, and causes weather disruptions all over the world. This explains our not very snowy winter. A road in New Delhi, India, melted because of the temperatures, which peaks 100 degrees or more. I don't know if this has to do with the water crisis going on, but I might as well write about it.      Asia, parts of Africa, and some parts of North America. are affected by a decrease of water. All I ask is that we all use as much water as needed and to spread the word. Maybe we can get water to those who need it. And don't forget to spread the word!

social media

Today's post is about social media like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, etc. Should kids be allowed on social media?       Kids are allowed to have social media to communicate with friends. Social media is way for relatives far away to communicate, like me. Skype and FaceTime help me talk and see my family and cousins. It can also help update people on fundraisers and ways to get involved in their community.       But social media has its downsides, too. More time spent on the internet can reduce family time, and therefore interfere with activities. It can cause kids to be lazy and irresponsible. Their eyes can get strained and soon they would need glasses.     So, should kids be allowed on social media? My answer is yes. If kids can manage the time spent on posting pictures on Instagram and such, they should be allowed. But they should be aware that social media is a privilege, and therefore can be taken away....

Frozen Movie - What I Understand

Frozen ! is a unique animated movie from Walt Disney. It is about two princesses: Elsa and Anna, Elsa having magical powers. After an unfortunate incident, Elsa and Anna were separated  to protect Anna and the kingdom, since Elsa's powers posed as a threat. After the king and queen perished in a shipwreck, Elsa was coronated queen. At the coronation ball, Anna grew stubborn  and made a mistake that made Elsa flee from the kingdom and trapped Arendelle [the kingdom] in eternal winter. Anna, realizing her mistake, sets of to find her sister. It is Anna's determination,  courage and love that reunites the sisters. Frozen is unique because unlike other Disney Princesses movies, when a price comes and saves the princess and they get married, blah, blah, blah while Frozen has a prince that turns into a traiter Frozen is a must-see movie for people who love their families and sister[s].

Spring

Spring reminds me of the warm sun. I call my friends over to Simon's Park for a playdate. I hear the birds singing in spring. Spring is the time animals wake up from their long hibranation and babys are born. Rain is very common in spring. Thousands of flowers bloom in spring. Spring helps make oxygen for us. Spring is a lot of fun. Aditi     Bhattamishra  1st Grade PineGlen Elementary School

Snakes

Snakes rest most of the day. Snakes have poor eye-sight. They stay in a fairly small place through out their lives. Some species live on land while others live in water. Water snakes move by swimming or floating. The black mamba may be the fastest snake. The black mamba is actually a cobra without a hood. The hog-nosed snake pretends to be dead to fool predetors. When a baby snake hatches, it has to defend for itself. When a water snake is scared, it sprays a smelly liquid to escape predetors. The gaboon viper can camouflage itself.  Aditi Bhattamishra, 1 Grade, Pine Glen Elmentary School
