The Story Of The American Flag

Betsy Ross sewed the first American flag with the help of her mother. The first flag had thirteen stripes for the thirteen colonies during that time. After several  years, the flag changed.. Another two states were added. Then two more stripes were added. As more and more states joined, the President of that time was worried that the flag will be VERY long. So he cut down the stripes to thirteen. and added stars to one corner of the flag  and soon, threre were fifty stars for the fifty states, and thirteen  stripes for the thirteen orginal colonies which became the first states. Joy was everywhere when the 50th star was added for Hawaii. Since then, the American flag has never changed. Aditi Bhattamishra 1st Grade Pine Glen

You're A Grand Old Flag

You're a grand old flag,     You're a high flying flag, And forever in peace may you wave; You're the emblem of the land I love, The home of the free and the brave. Every heart beats true for the Red, White and Blue, And there's never a boast or brag; Should all acquaintance be forgot, Keep your eye on the grand old flag. Aditi Bhattamishra Grade 1  Pine Glen
